Dementia Live-in Care
What is dementia?
Dementia is the loss of one's cognitive functioning — thinking, remembering, and reasoning — to an extent where it interferes with a person's daily life and activities. It is a collection of symptoms which affects mental processes in a number of ways, from impaired communication to memory loss. it is caused by a number of specific conditions such as Alzheimer’s and Vascular dementia.
Dementia ranges in severity from the mildest stage, when it is just beginning to affect a person's functioning, to the most severe stage, when the person must depend completely on others for basic activities of living.
Types and Symptoms of dementia
There are different types of dementia, the most common ones being Alzheimer's, Vascular dementia, Lewy body dementia, etc. Dementia occurs as a result of the death of once-healthy neurons or nerve cells. Once these neurons lose connection with other brain cells and die, a person would begin to experience the symptoms of dementia.
At Anitaliams First-Class care, our specialized carers have been trained to detect symptoms
Some of the most common early symptoms, which are often present before a formal diagnosis, are:
- Difficulty concentrating.
- Confusion – around daily tasks and times/dates.
- Memory loss.
- Struggling to follow a conversation.
- Mood changes.
- Wandering and getting lost in familiar places.
- Using unusual words to refer to familiar objects.
